Normally I agree with Mar Mari Emmanuel, but this is not a good take. The point of the reformation was not to secede from the Roman Catholic Church, but to reform it. Martin Luther wanted to set the Bible above the Papacy, and to give everyone access to the Bible by translating it into modern languages. The papacy reacted by excommunicating Martin Luther and trying to get him killed, and in the process they kicked out Germany and eventually Scandanavia from the RC Church. Is it wrong to put the Bible above the Papacy as the supreme authority? Absolutely not, if you believe the Bible is the infallible word of God. The only reason you would resist this is if you were an authoritarian who wanted to continue to abuse regular people. The later protestant churches (Pentacostal, Baptist, etc), are reboot movements, where they abolished everything unless it was directly called for by the Bible. The Lutheran reform movement only abolished such practices as were contrary to what the Bible says, and other than that we kept everything from the ancient church. Originally we were going to be called "The Evangelical Catholic Church," but "Lutheran" was applied to us as an insult, by the papacy, and it stuck, so there we are.

Sacrament and penance keeping is human effort added to God's grace to try to win God's favour. But God rejected Adam's, Eve's and Cain's human efforts as sacrifices to God. And God told Moses that human effort corrupts the sacrifice. Catholic good works says that Jesus Christ's death to remove our death penalty for our sins and Jesus Christ's shed blood sacrifice to remove God's wrath is not sufficient but we must add our good works to it. God says, "No.". The Roman Catholic doctrine is the apostasy and falling away of the early Church. Paul, the Apostle, wrote in Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
